John Hill, my 2 times great- grandfather, was born on September 25, 1823 in High Bickington, Devonshire, England. He was the middle child of three, born to William Hill & his wife Frances Richards.

When he was a young man, he emigrated to America with his brother, William Roland Hill.

On the 4th of July, 1844, in Batavia, Genesee, New York, he married a young English immigrant, my 2 times great- grandmother, Sarah Ann Hart. She was the daughter of Ephraim & Sarah (Foskett) Hart.

They settled in Leslie, Ingham, Michigan, where he built a large house next door to his brother, William.

Together, he and Sarah had seven children:

Ephraim William Hill ~ 1854-1932
Alice M Hill ~ 1859-1869
Sarah Ann Hill ~ 1860-1924
George H Hill ~ 1861-1869
Albert Edward Hill ~ 1864-1922
Walter H Hill ~ 1865-1869
John Hill ~ 1868-1869

In November & December of 1869, they lost 4 of their children to "Black Diphtheria".

In 1893, after 49 years of marriage, Grandfather John died at 70 years of age.
