WELCH — Reba DeBusk Banner, age 78, of Welch, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010. Born July 7, 1931, in Glade Spring, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lola Cook DeBusk. She was a resident of Welch the greater part of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Welch, a graduate of Liberty Hall High School and Miss Mary Frye's Secretarial School. Following graduation, she worked for Appalachian Power Company in the Welch office. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, craft work, reading and playing bridge with the ladies. She was preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, five brothers, Preston, Thomas, Jr., John, Jack, and Clarence; three sisters, Gay, Eula and Beatrice. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Claude Banner, Jr.; one daughter, Claudia Banner; one sister, Mabel Bowman; one brother, Joe DeBusk and wife Dee; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, April 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch with the Reverend Chuck Hammond, officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum in Bluewell. Friends may call Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the funeral home, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 416, Welch, WV 24801, the McDowell County Public Library, 90 Howard Street, Welch WV 24801, or the American Heart Association, 162 Court St., Charleston, WV 25301. Pallbearers will be Dr. Bob Bielawski, Mike Callaway, Tom Hale, Dennis Hardy, Fred Odum and Dr. Fred Swartzendruber. Honorary pallbearers will be Grover Goode, Frank Verduce, Jim Ingole, Joe DeBusk, Andrew Satmary and Marvin Grubb. Fanning Funeral Home of Welch is serving the Banner family.
