OBITUARY: Thomas Harvey Abel, November 10, 1955 ~ August 24, 2017 - reprinted from the O'Connell Family Funeral Home website

Thomas Harvey Abel, age 61 of Hudson, Wisconsin, passed away on August 24, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Thomas was born on November 10, 1955, in Breckenridge, MN, the son of Francis Abel and Lois Ellis. He graduated from Breckenridge High School and continued his education at North Dakota State University and Dunwoody College of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in business. He went on to become a superintendent working for Adolfson & Peterson Construction for 39 years. Thomas was united in marriage to Mary Beth Wallace on December 4, 1976. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Tyann, Tyler, Teaya, and Tyson.

Tom was an avid outdoorsman, appreciating the trees, water, and wildlife that surrounded him. One of Tom's favorite places in the world was his cabin, Abel Acres, in Shell Lake, WI where he cherished every moment with his beloved wife, family, friends, and dog, Kona. Over the past few years he discovered a new love for making his own delicious maple syrup. It was a family hobby and brought him great joy. In his free time, he loved to hunt and fish, and was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). He especially treasured his time spent fishing with his sons in Canada, and with his grandchildren in Kauai. Tom was a dedicated leader in Faith Community Church by helping run mission trips which restored and built homes in Mexico for 15 years. He enjoyed his long career with Adolfson & Peterson and truly appreciated his friendships with coworkers and clients. Tom was a humble man who had an infallible and encouraging impact on those he adored. His greatest passion was sharing his knowledge of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He was always teaching in life and will continue to do so in the lives of his loved ones. His perseverance throughout his cancer treatment was a testament to his strength and passion for life.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Tyann (John) Kakitsis of Kauai, HI, Tyler (Kelly) Abel of New Richmond, Tyson (Fiancé Anna Boswell) Abel of Bozeman, MT; grandchildren, Isaiah, Ari, Mazzy, Wilder and Gauge; siblings, Pam Johnson of Breckenridge, MN, Robin Abel of Breckenridge, MN, Michael (Cindy) Abel of Breckenridge, MN, Dan Abel of Breckenridge, MN, and Suzanne (Kellan) Pauly of Wahpeton, ND; father, Francis Abel of Breckenridge, MN; brothers-in-law, Barry Wallace of Cumberland, WI, John (Judy) Wallace of Afton, MN; sisters-in-law, Susan (Wayne) Likes of Hudson, WI, Linda Magnuson of Roberts, WI, Barbara (Kevin) Yoder of Hudson, WI, Jenny (David) Jerry of Hudson, WI, Rhonda (Kevin) Raley of Hudson, WI; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
