John was the husband of Allie G. (Seevers) Schriber (Oct. 31, 1900 - Jan. 9, 1991). John was actually born in Phoenix, Maryland, a small coal mining village between Barton and Westernport. The village of Phoenix no longer exists. John and his brother Ormen had to go to work in the underground coal mines when they were just children. Ormen was killed in a roof collapse at the Osage Mine near Morgantown, West Virginia in 1930.
