Services will be held at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Lane, on Friday, February 23rd, at 1:00 p.m., for Kathleen Mickey who passed away on February 17, 2007. Reverend James Patterson will officiate. Visitation will be at the service.
Kathleen was born June 27, 1920, in Danville, Indiana to Luther and Pearl Burgin, she graduated from Avon High School in 1938 in Indiana. Kathleen went to work for Link Belt in the purchasing department and was promoted to head of the records department during the years of WWII. Kathleen remained loyal to her high school class of 1938 and attended reunions in Indiana when ever she could.
On December 8, 1950, she married William "Bill" Mickey of Bakersfield whom she had met while he was stationed in Orlando, Florida while he was in the service. They were married in Indianapolis and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December of 2000. They settled in Bakersfield where Bill set up a certified accounting practice with various partnerships over the years. Kathleen settled in as a housewife and mother. They had two children, a daughter and a son.
She was active in PTA, and was a member of the Phi Epsilon Phi Sorority as well as the Assistance League. Kathleen loved to play cards, bridge, was her passion, and she loved to sew. Over the years Bill and Kathleen belonged to several local bridge clubs and dinner clubs and they were loyal fans of the Bakersfield Jr. College Renegades football team, and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame football team.
Kathleen's favorite times were spent in the company of her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, her son, her granddaughter, and the "apple of her eye" her great-grandson, her sister and brother-in-law, loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mildred and Mary Elizabeth, and her beloved husband, Bill.
