Inge S. Volk, age 88, of Peoria, formerly of Strongsville, OH, passed away 2:35 PM, Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center, in Peoria, IL., with her partner and several friends by her side.

Born April 7, 1928, in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, a daughter of Frederick Wilhelm and Francisca (Grohe) Kirsch. Orphaned at a very young age, she was raised by her grandparents during the war years of daily bombings. Since the schools were closed, Inge did not have a formal education. At the end of the war, she was fortunate enough to be in the American Zone and was able to learn English and secure employment in the U.S. Air Force Intelligence Service as an Interrogator. During that period, she met two people who would play important parts in her future life. One was John Krawczyszyn, of Cleveland, OH., who would be her first husband. The other was Ralph Lewis, a young GI, of Peoria, IL., who would be her significant partner in her later life.
After many years of happy marriage, John passed away due to complications of a severe illness. Inge then met and married Paul Volk of Strongsville, OH., and had a 2nd happy marriage until Paul’s death in the early 1990’s.

In 2000, Ralph Lewis (also twice married) tried to organize a reunion of the old Air Force 7050th Intelligence Squadron. The only person he could locate after more than 50 years, was Inge Volk. After two years of telephone contact, Inge and Ralph met in Las Vegas, and had the reunion. They have been significant friends ever since 2002.

Inge was well known for support of all good causes and her extraordinary generosity. She never let a friend down.

A storied life of accomplishments. She will be missed by those who really knew her.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with Father Paul Stark, S.J. officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior at the mortuary. Burial will follow in Parkview Cemetery.

Memorials in Inge’s name may be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
