He leaves behind 3 children, Daniel Young, Kevin Young, and Madison Young. He also leaves behind 2 sisters, Carolyn (Paul) Stingo, of Lake Placid, Florida, and Kathy (Tom) Waggoner of Avon Park, Florida, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary graduated from Avon Park High School in Avon Park, Florida in 1975, and immediately joined the Air Force as a law enforcement specialist 81151. After leaving the Air Force in 1979, he went to work for Cape Canaveral Air Force Station/Kennedy Space Center Florida, where he was hired to serve as a SWAT Team Member on their first unit of that type.
He went to work for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office on December 5, 1981, retiring from there on September 1, 2007.
He received both his AS and AA degree in Liberal Arts and Criminal Justice from Brevard Community College in 1986. He received his BA in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida in 1989. In 2005, he attended the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville becoming certified with the 113th Administrative Officer's Course. In 2006, he attended the University of Louisville, and completed 16 of 36 required credits in their Criminal Justice Management course.
There will be a memorial service held on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 2:30 P.M., at the First United Methodist Church of Port St. John.
