The original obituary was in the Coastal View News in Carpinteria, CA. on Sept. 24, 2009.

Faith was born in Lake of the Woods, Minn. to Lester Seagel Darbyshire (1898-1944), and Beulah Ruth (Mauk) Darbyshire (1910-2000). Her father moved their family out of Minn., and back to Kansas when Faith was very young. I think Faith was about 4 years old. Faith grew up in Wichita, Kansas before moving to CA. in 1955 after she graduated from high school. If I remember correctly - I think she moved to CA. with the help of her brother Ivan. She stayed with him, and his family until she got married which was only about a year later.

Her first marriage was to John Wesley Tollstrup who passed away in San Dimas, CA. He had previously lived in Ontario, & Chino, CA. (mostly Chino) (26April1936-26Nov2006). They were married for about 10 years. They were married on 02Jun1956 when she was 18 years old. She lived in Pomona for 14 years, Summerland for 10 years, and lived the last 30 in Carpinteria. She was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren whom she loved to go on walks through town with. She leaves behind her loving children, Michael (wife: Brigette) Tollstrup, Clifton (wife: Debra) Tollstrup, Stacy Larraine Tollstrup (husband: Cameron) Carr, and William "Bill" (wife: Wanza) Good. Faith had 8 siblings: Steve (1927-2013), Ivan Wayne (1928-2003), and Marjorie Lou "Margie" (1930- ?) from (Lester & Vadna's marriage). Vadna passed away, and Lester married her sister Beulah, and had Richard Mylan (Dick) (1932-1998), Nona Charlene (1936-2003), Faith Larraine (1937-2009), Joyce Mardehl (1939-2016), and Bethel June (1942-2001). Lester ended up passing away in 1944. A few years later, Beulah married a man named, Vernon V. Bull. He was a WWII Veteran. (SSGT US Army). Beulah had a daughter with him named, Vernessa "Vee" (1948-2009). Faith's siblings are all deceased.

Although no one in Faith's family seems to know about them, Faith had 2 other half-siblings that I know of. Faith's father, Lester's first wife was Bessie May Baker (1898-1920). She passed away very young and left him with their 2 babies. He left his children with his parents, and went out to the oil fields in Oklahoma to find work. That is where he eventually met Vadna. Lester & Bessie's 2 children were: Melvin Eugene Darbyshire (1918-1995), and Vera Irene (Darbyshire) Rowe ((1920-1995). They died within 2 weeks of each other I'm guessing because they were so close, and they might have been all that they had...

Faith was a waitress at the Santa Barbara Biltmore for 20 years. After retirement she became a devoted volunteer of HELP of Carpinteria. She was an expert crossword puzzle solver, enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together, and Jeopardy. She would like to be remembered as a hard worker, devoted mother, and a loving grandmother, which anyone who knew her could attest. She loved Carpinteria with a passion, and was at peace knowing she would live out her days there. She was laid to rest in the Carpinteria Cemetery.

"Our mother worked hard to raise us well, we lacked nothing and she did this on her own with no help". This quote is from Faith's son, and my husband, William Gary "Bill" Good. Faith married Bill's dad, William J. Good on Sept. 12, 1965. They were only together for abt. 3 years before adverse circumstances caused him to have to move back to Florida to be around his family. He, and his family were originally from the Jonesboro, and Johnson City, Tennessee (Washington & Greene Co.) areas.

Later on in life in the early 1980's, Faith met a dear man named, John "Sean" Joseph Knowd at the Biltmore where she worked. He became a dear friend of hers, and they shared Christmas, many family get-togethers, and a great deal of their lives together. Shawn is also buried in the Carpinteria Cemetery. He is buried right next to Faith. You can see his memorial at: memorial #80559919, or you can click on the highlighted link above.

One last thing that I remember about Faith is that she loved to travel by train, and she loved collecting pennies from heaven. The Darbyshire Family Crest/Coat of Arms motto is: Ubi amor ibi fides, which means ... "Where there is love there is faith."
