From Carol Clemmer;
The Grove, a short distance farther on
the Court House road to the left, was built on the site of The Grove battlefield
by Richard Hardaway, who married Sallie Jones. Wilfred Tuggle, a son of Dr. R.
B. Tuggle and Lucy Jane Oliver of Ravenswood in Nottoway, who married Clara
Vass, later bought The Grove and lived there for a number of years. He was a
man of quiet disposition, and took no active part in politics. A gentleman of
the "old school", he fully lived up to what that term implies. His home was
among the most hospitable in the county, and was always filled with guests. He
served in the war in Company E, 3rd Virginia Cavalry. [Turner, Old Homes and
Families in Nottoway, p. 55]
