Roy Bates Clyborne, 81, of 1010 Durham Road, died Saturday, September 20, 2008.
Born March 12, 1927, in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Charles Pickett and Margaret Nichols Clyborne.
Upon graduating from Greenville High School in 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served his country until his discharge in 1947. He then worked for the Southern Railroad for two years, and Western Auto for two years before joining Pet Dairy, from which he retired in 1991 after thirty-four years of service in sales and management.
He was a member of East Park Baptist Church for fifty years and served as usher for many years.
He was a very devoted husband, wonderful father and was always full of energy, humor and optimism. He will be so greatly missed.
Preceding him in death is his wife of fifty-eight years, Amaryllis Dalton Clyborne; three brothers, Edward Clyborne, Fred Clyborne and Charles Clyborne, Jr.; and two sisters, Annie Hughes and Louise Armstrong.
Surviving is his daughter and son-in-law, Donna Kay and Fred Lyda; his only living brother, Harry H. Clyborne; two nieces, Shirley Reese and Ann Dobson; and five nephews, Charles R. Hughes, Jerry Clyborne, Howell Clyborne, Jr., David Clyborne and Stephen Clyborne.
Services will be conducted Tuesday, September 23 at 2 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary, with Dr. Marion Hare and Rev. Spencer LeGrand officiating. Interment will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends Monday, 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1836 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621 or to East Park Baptist Church, 12 Ebaugh Ave., Greenville, SC 29607.
