Funeral services for Minnie McGee Colbert, 90, of Tchula were held Thursday, December 16, 1999 at Mt. Calvary M.B. Church in Tchula. Rev. Larry Evans officiated with interment in Long Branch Cemetery in Durant. Porter & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Colbert, a native of Long Branch Community in Holmes County, died Wednesday, Dec. 8 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Clayton, Missouri.
She was a member of the first graduating class of Mississippi Valley State College in Itta Bena and went on to become a school teacher in the Quafaloma Community and the Lynchfield Community. Later, she taught at Tchula Elementary and Junior High School before joining the first staff at the newly constructed Tchula Attendance Center (now S.V. Marshall).
Mrs. Colbert was a member of Mt. Calvary M.B. Church and was a member of the Holmes County Retired Teachers Association, Lebanon District Association, Tchula Library Board of Trustees, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Miss. Valley State University Alumni Association.
She is survived by: one daughter, Juanester Colbert Russell of University City, Missouri; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Colbert Russell.
Pallbearers were: Thomas Russell, Bruce Phillips, Charles Meeks, Anthony Russell, William Thompson, and John Hayes.
