He served in the Army during WWII, VA PFC HQ BTY 258 FA BN. During this time he was given the nickname of "Shooter". He was an excellent auto mechanic & later worked at Marlow Building Supply. He was a voracious reader, a man could easily say, was born before his time. He was a loving & caring brother to Cecil after his accident. Vance never knew a stranger & was an engaging conversationalist. He married Elinor C. Smith in 1940 & they had 4 children, Dorothy J.,Roy David, James Timothy b 1944 lived 1 day, and Cleo Sue Marston.
