Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Bergit Joanne Clemmer was named in honor of her maternal aunt, Bergit Nelson (who sadly passed away at only 11 years of age). Bergit was the eldest of her parents' four children, naturally displaying many stereotypical traits of first-borns: responsible, organized, mature, and independent.

After her family relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota, Bergit attended The Basilica School in Minneapolis, where she had the nickname "Cuddles." She was a 1948 graduate of St. Margaret's Academy in Minneapolis, a 1953 graduate of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus, and also a graduate of Mankato State Teachers College in Mankato, MN. Bergit loved teaching and interacting with her students; her career was spent as a public-school teacher in the Minneapolis, Minnesota and Los Angeles, California school districts.

Bergit was whip smart, witty, organized, and creative. Among her many interests, Bergit was an avid reader of all genres, an accomplished chef, and a superb seamstress/embroiderer. Bergit liked to quip that her December 16th birthday was "the official start to the Christmas season." She was a long-time admirer and collector of art by Sister Mary Corita Kent.

She was also a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, aunt, and teacher. Bergit shares a grave with her cherished nephew, Welby Alexander Gliszinski. May you rest in heavenly peace, Bergit.
