ABLE, DAVID WALLACE “WALLY” David Wallace "Wally" Able, 75, of 156 Valley Pike Road, Bristol, TN, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Denton Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Stevens officiating. The committal service and burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, directed by Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.

Mr. Abel was born in Washington County, VA, and moved to Bristol 48 years ago. He retired from Pepsi-Cola after 28 years. He coached baseball at South Holston Little League and Babe Ruth. He was a member of Denton Valley Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie E. Abel; three sons, Gary Abel of Washington, PA, Phillip Abel of Abingdon, and Randy Abel of Bristol TN; eight sisters, Martha Ketron of Bristol TN, Virginia Hunter of Cincinnati, Louise Schwartz of Jonesborough, Lillian Jones and Phyllis Abel, both of Abingdon, Grace Odum of Bristol VA, Katherine Saul of Winder, GA, and Sue Gibson of Knoxville; three brothers, Jack Abel and Wayne Abel, both of Abingdon, and Bill Abel of Bristol VA; two grandsons; two step-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Also, Mr. Abel was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Lester Abel Jr.

Other survivors include two grandsons, David Abel of Abingdon and Virginia and Matthew Abel of Washington, PA; and two step-grandsons, Travis and Joseph Hayden of Abingdon.

Pallbearers will be Danny Mitchell, Sammy Price, Jack Roberts, Ray Stevens, John Abel, Bob Montgomery, Dee Combs and Paul Combs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Montgomery, Jim Rutherford, Dave Brown, the Rev. Mike Abel, men of Denton Valley Baptist Church, his associates from Pepsi-Cola and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation of East Tennessee, P. O. Box 1135, Blountville, TN 37617, or Denton Valley Baptist Church, c/o The Rev.
