Darrell Turbyfill HICKORY Darrell Lee Turbyfill, 62, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Darrell was born July 13, 1952 in Catawba County, to the late Carrol Dewey and Mary Vickers Turbyfill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dewey Sydney and Ocie Mae Angel Turbyfill; and maternal grandparents, Johnny Gordon and Grace Ayers Vickers. He was a member of Church of God of West Hickory, and worked for the city of Hickory for 35 years in the recreation dept. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and had season tickets to the Crawdad Baseball since the beginning. He was a very loving and caring, like a brother, to all of his cousins. Surviving are his cousins, Brenda Boliek, Larry Drum, Gary Drum, Erica Lowman and husband, Scott, Andrea Vickers, Darlene Corpening and husband, Don, Nancy Sweezy, Gordon Sweezy; and numerous second and third cousins. Services will be Saturday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Derek Specht officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home. Condolences may be made online at www.hickoryfh.com.
