Stu was a 3rd generation farmer on the family farm that was originally owned by his G grandfather who immigrated here from Sweden. He and his father raised 10 thousand chickens at the time for broilers. The market declined and so they bought 5 thousand laying hens for egg production. Once out of the chicken business Stu went to raise cattle and raised wheat, barley, oats and corn, primarily grass and alfalia for hay.
He was a member of Fairview Crops And Livestock Association 4-H Club, and was a leader for the same club for 33 years. Stu after that he served on the Boulder County Fair board and the ASCS (agriculture Stabilization & Conservation Service). Stu served on the FSA (Farm Service Agency), In 1987 his family received the Boulder County Fair award.
Stuart served on the Board of the Marshalville Ditch Association holding every single office. Both his parents served on this Board and his daughter now continues in his footsteps following the tradition.
His greatest love was for Steam Engines and trains was evidenced throughout his life. He was a long time member of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club. He may have hopped a freight train a couple of times in his lifetime. He was a partner in the High Country Railroad, which operated as a tourist attraction located in Heritage Square in Golden, Colorado (Which is about a hours drive from his home in Boulder) Stu loved working on the engine of the 1907 Avery Steam Engine. He restored his families 1917 G I Case's engine, which both sit in his barn at his families farm. Both steam engines make there appearance's at the Boulder County Fair and the Yesteryear show yearly. (Even since he has passed) along with the steam engines they also show old tractors, old cars and thrashing machines from years long gone.
Sadly Stu (Nickname) passed away from complications of Parkinsons which came on rather sudden after it was detected. He died on the 29th of January in the year 2010 at the age of 76. He left to cherish his memory his wife and their three daughters, a sister Bernice and her husband, many relatives and loved ones who will dearly miss him. I know I sure do and miss his steam-ups that his family held once a year. Just not the same without him. Rest in peace Stu.
Stuart Samuel Anderson is buried In Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder Colorado, with a picture of a steam engine etched on his stone, honoring the great man that he was.
