PENNINGTON, John Claude

John Claude Pennington, age 83, Mountain City, Rout[sic] 3, (Elizabethton Highway) died in Cannon Memorial Hospital, Banner Elk, N.C., Saturday, 7:40 a.m., after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Ashe County, N.C., but had made his home in Johnson County most of his life. He was a retired farmer and a member of the First Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Della Ann Pennington, Mountain City; four sons, Stacy, Cranford, N.J., James, Russell, Ky., Dayton, Philadelphia, Pa., and Bruce, Mountain City; one daughter, Anna Mae Pennington, North Carolina; ten grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were conducted from the Lewis Gentry Funeral Home Chapel Monday, 2:00 p.m. with ministers, Lewis Savage and Leonard Shehan officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park.
Pall-bearers[sic] were friends and neighbors.
Flower-bearers[sic] were friends
Lewis Gentry Funeral Home and neighbors. Was in charge of arrangements.

We are deeply grateful to our friends, neighbors and relatives for their helpfulness and expressions of sympathy during our bereavement in the death of my husband and our father, Claude Pennington.
We wish to express our appreciation for all the delicious food and flowers and also to Mr. Lewis Savage and Mr. Leonard Shehan and to the Lewis Gentry Funeral Home.
