ORANGE -- James Carr Sr., of 15 Johnson Rd., passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Orange, April 10, 1931, the son of Irene (Marble) and Francisco Carr.

He grew up and lived here all of his life.

He graduated from New Salem Academy in 1950. While attending school he worked at the John Moore Farm and after graduating he went to work the following year for Orange Oil where he worked for 45 years.

He married the former Nancy Johnson in 1951 and would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on July 7.

He is survived by six children, Linda Petruski, and her husband David, of Orange; Carol Ann Robichaud, and her husband Barry, of Athol; James Jr., and his wife Jean, of Vernon, Vt.; David, and his companion Pat Provencher, of Royalston; Debra Carlson, and her husband Dexter, of Athol and Bruce of Warwick; 10 grandchildren, Matthew Robichaud, Christopher and Nathan Carlson, Kristen(Carr) Willis, and her husband Bobby, Joshua Carr, Andrew Petruski, Aaron, Elizabeth, Abigail and Lena Carr and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Jean Packard and Amy Moore of Massachusetts.

Jim loved horses and enjoyed going to various horse draws at many different fairs. He loved his vegetable garden and was an amateur carpenter. He enjoyed square dancing in his younger years and was a member of the Orange Methodist Church. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed the many events the grandchildren were involved in.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange.

The funeral will be Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Julia Daly officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in James' memory to the New Salem Alumni Scholarship Fund, c/o Gabriele Voelker, 76 William Rice Rd., New Salem, Mass. 01355, or the Orange United Methodist Memorial Fund, c/o Dennis Hallett, 15 Coombs Ave., Orange, Mass. 01364.

ORANGE -- Funeral services were held on Thursday morning, July 2, at Witty's Funeral Home in Orange for James Carr Sr., 78, of 15 Johnson Road, who died on June 28 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield, following an illness.

The Rev. Julia Daley, Pastor of the Orange United Methodist Church, officiated. A poem was read by Casey Dufour and words of remembrance were offered by several family members.

Interment was private.

A reception was held at the Fellowship Hall of the Orange United Methodist Church.

Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, was honored with directing the arrangements.
