"Old House Hill"(Now on Melon Road In Halifax Co.

May 7th.1861,Samuel Carter Williams enlisted as a
2nd.Lieutenant in the Brooklyn Grays,Company E,
of the 23rd.Infantry of Virginia,under Captain
William Haymes.Williams took command of the company in Winchester,Virginia,after Captain Haymes had been captured.
On April 21,1862he was elected Captain.He
participated in many battles.
Captain Williams was killed November 27th,1863
at the Battle of Paynes Farm.
Captain Samuel Williams and his wife Elizabeth
are buried in the Williams Family Cemetery,
on Captain Williams former plantation"Old House Hill"
