Charles Blanda Dies After 2-Day Illness
Charles Blanda 69, of 1104 Carteret died Thursday in St. Mary-Corwin hospital of a stroke suffered the day previously at his home. A member and former president of the Pueblo Liquor Dealers Association, Blanda was widely known throughout the state. He was proprietor of the Holiday Inn Inc. at 112 W. Seventh. In the 1950's Clanda was sentenced to two federal four-year terms, which were served concurrently, in Leavenworth, Kan. following his indictment in October 1952. Blanda and Tom "Whiskers" Incerto, each were charged with lying to U.S. Income tax agents and received the two year sentences, a $5,000 fine each and then two years probation upon completion of sentence. They were paroled from Leavenworth March 8, 1956, after serving nearly all the sentence. The parole in each case was for good behavior. Blanda was found guilty of evading $10,682 in taxes for 1948 and 1949 while Incerto was charged with failure to report $29,398 in income. In 1950 Blanda was cited in a report by Virgil Peterson of the Chicago Crime Commission, as the Southern Colorado underworld boss. A member of St. Patrick, the T.P.A. and Pueblo Eagles Aerie 145, Blanda is survived by his widow, Cora E. Blanda and a daughter Mrs. Norma Clemmer, of the family home; and grandchildren, Mrs. Charlene Marino, and Tom and Rita Marie Clemmer, all of Pueblo, and one great-grandson. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Mary Ricotta, Pueblo; and two brothers, Phillip Blanda, Los Angeles, and Anthony Blanda, Huntington Park, Calif. George F. McCarthy Funeral Home will handle arrangements.
