On 13 May 2011, Columbia Marie Stenberg passed away peacefully with her family at her side in her seaside home in Port Hueneme, California, at the age of 90.

Columbia was born in 1920 in Chicago, Illinois. Her family moved to Southern California when she was a young girl. She graduated in 1938 from San Fernando High School and studied English at UCLA. On November 10, 1941, Columbia met Ron Stenberg on a blind date. They were married on April 18, 1942, before Ron went into active duty. They lived in Southern California, surrounded by their families and many friends. They were married 47 years before Ron died in January 1990.

Columbia loved meeting new people and spending time with old friends. Her philosophy was "A stranger is a friend you haven't met yet". During her attendance at UCLA, she was active in Newman Club. While staying at home raising her family, Columbia maintained her interest in people by joining Delphian Society. During the 1980s, she became active in TOPS, Weight Watchers, Hope House, and AlAnon.

When she moved to Port Hueneme in 2004, she joined One Again and a Cancer Support Group, meeting many new friends.

At the age of 54, Columbia started her career as a Real Estate Agent. During that 26 year career, she became a Real Estate Broker and established the very successful Columbia Realty, a business that brought her great pride.
In addition to her successful career, Columbia enjoyed traveling. When she was not traveling with Ron to Hawaii, Ireland, Canada, and around the Continental United States, she saw much of Europe and the Caribbean with Sally Byun.

She delighted in having friends visit her and showing off her beloved Los Angeles and all its surrounding areas. She always had a list of places to see and things to do ready for anyone who would join her.

Columbia was an insatiable reader, reading the LA Times front page to back. Whatever she read, was hers to remember and quote throughout her life. Throughout her life she remained informed, active in her communities, and kept abreast of the fast-changing world.

In September 2010, friends and relatives gathered and sent wishes from around the world as she celebrated her 90th birthday. Greetings came from friends who had known Columbia from high school to September 2010.

In the course of her life she touched many people, sharing joys and sorrows with family and friends. Her adventurous and compassionate spirit will be missed in many circles.

~"Dearest Columbia, As long as I live, You will live. As long as I live, you will be remembered. As long as I live, You will be loved."~

~"Seems like a moment, you have been gone from this earth, feels like a lifetime."~

~"What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." ~

~"The soul in me honors the soul in you."~

~Perhaps they are not stars in the sky but rather openings to Heaven where loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.~
