WAYNESBORO, Pa. - George I. Diffenbaucher, 88, of 609 Prospect Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Waynesboro Hospital. Born Sept. 28, 1912, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late George M. and Mary A. Snyder Diffenbaucher.
He was a 1932 graduate of Waynesboro High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in education from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1937 and later did graduate work at Duke University. He was a teacher of history and English at Waynesboro High School in the Waynesboro School District from 1937 to 1973.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, where he served on the church council.
He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 731 of Waynesboro; Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity; Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association; and Franklin County Retired Teachers Association. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite H. Hartzok Diffenbaucher, whom he married May 7, 1938; a son, George I. Diffenbaucher of Alexander, Va.; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. in Waynesboro. Pastor Sharon Van Dam will officiate. Burial will be in Burns Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro. The family will receive friends Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
