Mike Daniel Parks, 81, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, S.C.

He was married to Josephine "Jo" Parks of the home. Born in Hot Springs, N.C., he was the son of the late Iassac and Maude Parks.

After returning from the Navy in 1945, he married the Lois June Buckner, who preceded him in death. Over the years he has had several occupations including serving on the Bell County Sheriff Department for 16 years as the sheriff of Fonde; coal mining, working at Big Nickel Tipple; and finally retiring from his used furniture store.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Daniel Parks; three sisters, Lona, "Bug", and Edith; two brothers, Clifford, and Plato. a son-in-law, Rev. Holbart Sowders.

He leaves 12 children to cherish his memory, Larry Parks of Kentucky, Gary Parks and wife Carolyn of Tennessee, Pat Parks and Chris Beets of Tennessee, Vicky Sowders of South Carolina, Jennifer Davis and husband James of Tennessee, Melody Parks and Beverly Hagan of South Carolina, Timmy Parks of Tennessee, Mary Lambdin and husband Bossy of North Carolina, Brian Parks and Jackie White of North Carolina, Bruce Parks of Kentucky, Terry Parks and wife Melanie of South Carolina; a stepson, Ricky Johnson and wife Terri of Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Michael, Marissa, Chris, Scott, Sabrina, April, Rebecca, Andrew, Brandy, Lindsey, Chris, and Brandon; 15 great-grandchildren, Michaela, Damion, Corey, Havin, Emily, Nicholas, Arianna, Kaylee, Tyson, Eamana, McKe n z i e , J e n n i f e r, Sandra, Ethan and his dear Emma; one brother, Bill Parks of Fonde; one sister, Suze Partin of Tennessee; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was also blessed with many friends, but the closet to his heart was Jimmy Lemmon and Robert Sharp.

Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Llewellyn Funeral Home in Jellico with his nephew the Rev. Johnny Parks andthe Rev. Lonnie Lyke presiding. Visitation is Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Llewellyn Funeral Home.

Burial will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at the family cemetery in Clairfield, Tenn. Pallbearers will be his seven sons and his son-in- law, Bossy. Honorary pallbearers are James Davis, Shane Swaney, and Jimmy Lemmon. This obituary ia a courtesy of creech funeral home.
