NEWTON – Funeral services for James Edward Smith, 63, of Newton will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. B. B. reed of Bronson, former pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Leonard Budro, pastor. Burial will be in the Bleakwood Cemetery under the direction of the Griner Funeral Home of Newton.
Smith died at about 4 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 1972 in Newton County Memorial Hospital following a stroke at his home early Sunday morning.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sallie Smith of Newton; four sons, Joe Carl Smith of Port Arthur, James W. Smith of Orange, Roy Jean and Johnny Smith, both of Newton; one brother, Don Smith of Buna; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Smith of Newton, and four grandchildren.
