Mary Aurelia (Cannon) Pridgeon, 81, of Spartanburg, widow of Hal Linton Pridgeon, Jr., died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

A native of Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Simpson Fant Cannon, Sr. and Sarah (Simmons) Cannon.

A graduate of Spartanburg High School and Converse College, she taught many years in the Spartanburg elementary schools. She was a life-long member of Bethel United Methodist Church and remained active until her death. She was a member of the H. F. Creitzberg Sunday School Class and of the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Lamar Pridgeon and his wife Jane; two grandchildren, Brian Douglas Pridgeon and Lauren Virginia Pridgeon; her sister, June C. Cureton and her husband William M. Cureton; and loving nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an infant son, James Edwin; five brothers, Simpson, Jr., David, Edwin, Bernard and Jack Cannon; and three sisters, Sarah Spell, Marjorie and Helen Cannon.

The family attended a private interment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

A service celebrating her life was held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2005, in the Sanctuary of Bethel United Methodist Church. Members of the H. F. Creitzberg Class served as honorary pallbearers. The family received friends at the close of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to the Trustee Fund of Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306; or to the charity of ones choice.
