LANGLEY, S.C. - Entered into the presence of the Lord, Thursday, morning, January 1st, 2009, at his home, Mr. James E. 'J.E.' Free, Sr., 86, of Langley, SC, beloved husband of Josephine Baker Free and son of the late Will and Eva Rutland Free. Born in and a lifelong resident of Aiken County, SC, he retired from Connells Amusement Company after forty years of service. A World War II Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. A devout Christian, he was a very active member of Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church, Bath, SC, prior to his health declining. In addition to his wife, family members include his children, James E. 'Jimmy' Free, Jr., (Shirlynn) North Augusta, SC, Frank Elton Free, (Martha) Cornelius, NC, the late Diane Thomason, and Teresa Gail Gunter, (Richard) Warrenville, SC; step-children, the late Teresa Fleck, Cynthia Jean Raine, (Dennis) Warrenville, SC and Sharon Hicks, Langley, SC; siblings, Salley Lowe, (Furman) Gloverville, SC, Retta Anderson, Bath, SC, Daniel Free, (Hazel) Bath, SC, Billy Free, (Gloria) North Augusta, SC, the late Lee 'Coot' Free and the late Marie Mitchum, eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, January 4th, 2009, at 2 o'clock at Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church, Bath, SC, with Pastor Bill Branch and his grandson, Pastor Todd Blackwell officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bath, SC. Pallbearers will be James Blackwell and his grandsons, Keith Blackwell, Joey Blackwell, Gary Blackwell, Jamie Free and Chip Free. The family has asked that memorials in his memory be made to Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church, c/o Mission Funds, P.O. Drawer H., Bath, SC. Friends may call at the family residence.
