Goochland Virginia Light Artillery, Crutchfield's Artillery Battalion, G.W.C. Lee's Division, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.


Residence: Goochland County, VA.; 5' 8", light complexion, dark blue eyes, red hair.

Enlisted for the duration of the war on 2/1/1863 in Richmond, VA, he was mustered into Captain Jonathan Talley's Company, Goochland Virginia Light Artillery, as a Private.

Present on Jan & Feb 1863 Roll.

Absent, sick on March & April through Nov & Dec 1863 Rolls.

Present on all subsequent Rolls until POW 4/6/1865 in Battle of Sayler's Creek, near Farmville, VA; confined 4/14/1865 Point Lookout, MD; took Oath Allegiance there on 6/16/1865, and released.


The Goochland Virginia Light Artillery was organized in May, 1861, with men recruited in Goochland County. The battery served as heavy artillery at Chaffin's Bluff until February, 1864, when it was converted to infantry.
