Willie Vashti Ball, 81, of Bean Station, formerly of Greeneville, died Saturday evening at Fort Sander's Regional Hospital in Knoxville after an extended illness.

She was born in Harlan, Ky., in 1921.

She and her husband, Cawood Ball, moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., in the 1950s when they worked for Magnavox, and later moved to Greeneville.

Mrs. Ball was a member of Tusculum Baptist Church, while living in Greeneville, and attended First Baptist Church in Bean Station until her health declined.

Mrs. Ball was active in several organizations and, through the years, served as president and in other offices of the local Parent-Teacher Associations in Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. She was a member of the Women's Traffic Club in Fort Wayne; served 25 years in Girl Scouting leadership including organizing the first troop in a state institution at Fort Wayne State School.

Mrs. Ball taught young adults in Sunday school for several years, was a member of a Home Demonstration Club, and was active as a volunteer, working in schools and the community.

In addition to her husband of 63 years, she is survived by three daughters, a son, and their spouses: Ti and Lloyd Thompson of Bean Station, Susan and Fred Hoffman of Monroeville, Ind., and twins: Debra and Ken Oldenberg and David and Kaye Ball, all of Greeneville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother: Chester Shedd of Fort Wayne; and two brothers-in-law.

Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning in the funeral home chapel with interment at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Rev. Raymond Long will officiate.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Timothy Thompson, Matt Thompson, Larry Hoffman, Paul Hoffman, Michael Ball, Matthew Ball, and Christopher Oldenberg.

Honorary pallbearers will be special friends: Dr. Thomas Beckner, Judy and Wayne Bettis, Jean Broyles, Dr. Luke Ellenburg, Kathy and Ronald Fox, Elizabeth and David Hensley, Ricky and Becky Johnson, John M. Jones Jr., Dana and LaWanda Lambe, Hugh and Mildred Lawing, Dr. Sarah and John Ratcliff, Bobbie Samsel, Naseem Siddiqi, Clyde and Charles White, and the members of First Baptist of Bean Station and Tusculum Baptist churches.
