Ronald Dean Gulling, 77, entered the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, when he died unexpectedly on January 8, 2013, after spending a life of cheerful service to God, family and the community. Dean was born July 29, 1935, to Blake and Addie Curry Gulling in Runnels, Iowa, where he grew up on the farm. He graduated from Runnels High School in 1953. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Bob Jones University in 1959. He spent a career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as salesman, credit manager, store manager, and finally retail area sales manager, serving stores throughout Tennessee and Georgia. The majority of his time with the company he was store manager in Rossville, Georgia. While living in the Chattanooga area he was also an active member of the Optimist Club and East Ridge Presbyterian Church for many years. He retired in Seymour, Tennessee, after 35 years with Goodyear. Never one to stay idle, after moving to Seymour he worked for several years with Heartland Development. He was an active member of Sandy Springs Presbyterian Church of Maryville, where he was a deacon. Dean is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan E. Wilkinson Gulling; daughters Dana, married to Andrew Mead (Lancaster, PA); Kendra, married to Sam Ray (Atlanta, GA); and Tara, married to Brian Havely (Knoxville); and seven grandchildren, Ethan, Jonathan, and Adeline Havely; Brooke and Savannah Mead; and Blake and Brittany Ray. The family will receive visitors 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12 at Highland South Funeral Home, 9010 East Simpson Road, Knoxville, TN 37920 with a chapel service to follow at 3 p.m. Entombment will immediately follow the chapel service at Highland South Memorial Park.
