She was the widow of the Reverend Abner Robertson. Born to British parents on April 30, 1910 in Guatemala City, she was the third child of Edward Henry Granville Stewart, a civil engineer, and Ethrl Frances Archibald, a daughter of Sir William Frederick Archibald, a Master of the Supreme Court of England. Her father was in Central America constructing the first railroad down through that area. She immigrated to America, through New Orleans, on Armistice Day, 1918, with her parents to Dothan, Alabama. Her father found work there as railroad manager for the St. Andrews Bay Line, which connected Dothan to Pensacola, Florida. Previously tutored, and fluent in three languages, her first formal education was in high school in Dothan. She graduated from Judson College in Marion, Alabama in 1932. She briefly attended the Presbyterian School of Christian Education before her marriage to the Reverend Abner Robertson in 1933. Musically inclined and well trained, she played the piano and organ for her husband's churches. She also served as a volunteer in the Richmond Motor Pool during World War II. In the 1950s she worked in the Administration of the new Richmond Memorial Hospital. She also served as executive director of the Richmond Junior Chamber of Commerce. Later she was active with the YWCA and was instrumental in the creation of a camp in New Kent County for that organization. Finally, she was a longtime volunteer for Richmond Memorial Hospital and member of Ginter Park Presbyterian Church.
