She was a cousin of General Joseph E. Johnston and a famous southern beauty.
One of their four sons, Henry Robertson became Consul-General to Peru and another, John C. Robertson became a professor of languages in Annandale, New York.

Her husband Beverly Holcombe Robertson was an Indian fighter, a Confederate General and businessman.
He was born at "The Oaks" near Bevils Bridge Road in Amelia County, VA., a son of William H. Robertson.
He graduated at West Point in 1849 and was first stationed at Socorro in the Territory of New Mexico. After six months at the Carlisle Cavalry School he rejoined his regiment in New Mexico where he spent several years "scouting and skirmishing among the Apache, Comanche and Navajo Indians.
In 1855 he led an expedition against the Sioux and was commended for gallantry in active engagements with the Sioux, Apache and Ute Indians.
Robertson resigned from the U.S. Army in 1861 and organized and commanded the Fourth Virginia Cavalry, C.S.A.
He took part in Jacksons Valley Campaign, and after the death of Turner Ashby, Robertson commanded Jacksons' cavalry. He was promoted to brigadier general on 9 June 1862. He commanded a brigade in General Stuarts' cavalry division in the 2nd Bull Run, commanded a brigade at the Second Battle of Manassas and was in the Battle at Gettysburg, PA.
Later he was assigned to command the coastline between Charleston, S.C. and Savannah, GA.
In later life he was in the insurance business in Chicago and then moved to Washington, D.C. where he was involved in real estate.
He married Virginia Neville Johnston, a cousin of General Joseph E. Johnston and a famous southern beauty.

General Robertson died in Washington, D.C. at the age of 84 and is buried at the family burying grounds at "The Oaks" in Amelia County, VA.
His upright tombstone states that he died 12 Nov. 1910, a footstone was added by a veteran's organization that has a different death date.
